Syphilis Disease

Many of us have probably heard that diseases can be transmitted through sexual contact, including one syphilis aka " Lion King ". However, do you really know about this one disease?

Is syphilis?
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum. This disease can be transmitted through sexual intercourse, whether vaginal, rectal, anal, or oral. Syphilis is not spread by eating utensils, place the toilet seat, door knob, swimming pool, and a clothing exchange.

Symptoms and signs of syphilis
Many of the patients with syphilis who are not aware if they were exposed to syphilis and therefore they do not receive good treatment. Infection is mainly acquired when there is direct contact with syphilis sores are currently active

Syphilis has several stages of infection. Once infected with syphilis, there is an incubation period, the period before the onset of symptoms until the sores are called " chancre " about 9-90 days, generally the average time of 21 days was seen.

The first stage of syphilis may exist an open sore called a chancre on the genitals, rectal, or mouth. This open wound does not hurt. Enlarged lymph nodes may appear. A patient can not feel the pain and the wound usually heals by itself within 4-6 weeks, and therefore the patient usually will not come to the doctor for treatment, but this does not mean syphilis disappear, but continue to circulate in the body. If not properly addressed, will continue until the next stage.

The second stage appeared about 1-6 months (on average about 6-8 weeks) after the first infection, there are several different manifestations in the second stage. A red rash may occur without itchy in certain parts, such as the palms of the hands and feet, or moist areas, such as the scrotum and vaginal lips. In addition to the rash, other symptoms occur, such as fever, enlarged lymph nodes, sore throat, headache, weight loss, muscle aches, and please note that the symptoms and signs of a second infection with syphilis will also be lost by itself, but also keep in mind that this does not mean syphilis disappear from your body, but the infection continues until the latent stage.

Latent stage is the stage where it is checked by laboratory tests, the results are positive, but the symptoms and signs may exist or not. The latent stage is also divided as early and late latent stage. Expressed as early latent syphilis when syphilis was already inside the body for two years or less from the first infection with or without symptoms. While the late latent syphilis if it has been suffering for two years or more from the first infection in the absence of evidence of clinical symptoms. In practice, it is often not known when it started to hit so often times it must be assumed that the patient had reached the latent stage.

Tertiary syphilis that appears on the third of patients who are not treated properly. Usually occurs 1-10 years after the initial infection, but in some cases can be up to 50 years emerging, this stage can be seen with signs of raised bumps like soft tumors. At this stage, many organ damage that can occur, ranging from damage to the bones, nerves, brain, muscles, eyes, heart, and other organs.

If the handling of both
For the future, if you receive treatment with either syphilis in early syphilis affected, will give good results. Keep in mind, therapeutic failure could happen and it could happen reinfection. There is no definite criteria regarding recovery of patients with syphilis infection first and second, but syphilis can be considered cured if blood tests for two years and no negative symptoms.
